Binghamton Father, Son Charged in West Side Stabbing Incident

A father and son have been arrested in connection with an attack on a man on a Binghamton West Side street.

Authorities say 66-year-old Joseph P. Brooks of Ridge Street and 31-year-old Joseph L. Brooks of Chapin Street face charges in the February 4 stabbing incident.

Investigators say 46-year-old Raymond Noel of Binghamton was stabbed in the lower back and side in the late-afternoon attack near 133 Chapin Street.

Detectives say the elder Brooks was charged with first-degree attempted assault, a felony. He's accused of stabbing Noel with a "bladed object."

The son was charged with second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor. He is accused of charging Noel while brandishing a machete sword.

Police say the suspects were taken into custody at separate locations. Both were arraigned in Binghamton City Court. The father was sent to Broome County Jail and the son was released pending further court action.

Investigators say several people had been involved in a street disturbance that preceded the stabbing.
