Back to Standard Time This Weekend

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, November 4.

While clocks are being turned back an hour before going to bed Saturday night, residents are reminded to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and test the devices.

Officials are reminding the public that smoke detectors do carry an expiration date. Most units should be replaced at least once every ten years.  The expiration date will be stamped on the back of detectors.

The American Red Cross says a good number of the disasters it responds to every eight minutes is a home fire.

Injuries and deaths from fires can be greatly reduced by having working smoke detectors in homes, apartments and businesses.

The Red Cross has an on-going Home Fire Campaign in which it works with community partners to install free smoke alarms and help residents create home fire escape plans.
