23-year-old Orlando Tercero had been convicted by a judge in Nicaragua of femicide last year and sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing Anderson in his Binghamton apartment March 8, 2018.

Tercero fled to Nicaragua after Anderson was found strangled and the Nicaraguan government rejected numerous requests by local and U.S. officials to return the former B.U. student to Binghamton to be tried for murder. Nicaragua does not have an extradition treaty with the United States.

Tercero was convicted by a judge and sentenced in November to the maximum for femicide in proceedings that were video-linked to the Broome County District Attorney’s office where local witnesses submitted testimony and family members and the media looked on.

The hearing scheduled for Tuesday, March 10 is also to be streamed to the D.A.’s office. The hearing is to start at 11 a.m. Nicaraguan time, 1 p.m., Eastern Daylight Saving Time.
