Testimony in Former B.U. Student’s Nicaraguan/Broome Trial Resumes Oct. 22

It took over two weeks to get in two days of testimony in the trial of a former Binghamton University student accused of killing another student who fled to his native Nicaragua and it will be another week before the third day of the trial in Nicaragua gets underway.

23-year-old Orlando Tercero is accused of strangling fellow student 22-year-old Haley Anderson in his Oak Street apartment March 8 of last year. His “femicide” trial is taking place in Nicaragua since that country has no extradition agreement with the U.S. and has refused to send Tercero back to Broome County.

The first day of the trial that has the testimony presented by witnesses in Binghamton with the Tercero and the court in Nicaragua connected via a satellite hookup took place all day October 1.  The Nicaraguan judge adjourned the proceedings until Friday, October 11 with testimony resuming in the afternoon, Binghamton time.  The second day ended around 5:30 p.m. in Binghamton and the judge has adjourned the case until Tuesday, October 22.  The testimony will resume at 11 a.m. Nicaraguan time.  That’s 1 p.m. in Broome County.

Tercero and Anderson had a one-time relationship according to friends.
