Apartment Project Eyed for Former Binghamton McDonald’s Site

A Binghamton property that was home to a McDonald's restaurant may be used as the site for a 28-unit housing complex with some commercial space.

Greater Opportunities has acquired two parcels just south of the agency's offices on West State Street near the Binghamton Plaza.

The properties were purchased in December from Robert Skrabalak for $140,000.

Greater Opportunities chief executive officer Mark Silvanic said the agency is interested in developing a project that would provide housing for low-income seniors. He said the residential units would be built above mixed commercial space on the ground level.

The agency is in the early stages of planning the complex, which would need support through state tax credits or grants.

Silvanic estimated the proposed project's cost at between $12 million and $13 million.

The West State Street site has been vacant since the McDonald's restaurant building was demolished just over three years ago. The business closed in September 2018.
