73-Year-Old Man Charged After Woman Shot in Hillcrest

A Hillcrest man was arrested following a shooting incident in the Town of Fenton.

Authorities say police were sent to a Hillcrest residence shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday to investigate a report that a woman had been shot.

New York State Police, Broome County sheriff's deputies and Port Dickinson police were dispatched.

According to state police, a 58-year-old woman was injured in the incident. She was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City where she underwent surgery. Her name was not released.

Police said 73-year-old Darrel Rich has been charged with first-degree assault in connection with the shooting. He was arraigned on the charge.

According to a Broome County jail spokesperson, Rich was not being held in the facility Monday afternoon.
