Yet Another Binghamton Area Summer Event Cancelled Due to COVID-19
Last week on their Facebook page, The Afton Fair was counting down the days to this year's event. On May 20th, a post read that they were just 50 days away from the 131st Afton Fair.
The post said that they were monitoring the current situation and we're waiting to see what guidelines were issued in the reopening of the state process. Late last night, they pulled the plug.
On last night's Facebook post, they stated that they were heartbroken that they had to cancel this year's event, but without guidance from the state and all the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus and the state's easing of restrictions, they figured this was their only option.
They went on to thank everybody for their support and they pledged that next year's Afton Fair will be stronger than ever.
The fair was scheduled to take place July 9th through July 12th at the Afton Fairgrounds. The Afton Fair now joins a long list of Binghamton area summertime traditions canceled due to the Corona virus pandemic. That list includes The Dick's Open, July Fest, the Strawberry Festival, 4th of July Spectacular at Highland Park in Endwell, and the General Clinton Canoe Regatta to name a few.
