With the summer travel and vacation season here, you don't necessarily have to travel far away to find adventures in the Southern Tier of New York and Northeast Pennsylvania.

The website Stacker put together a list highlighting the coolest and offbeat wonders in every state in America using data from Atlas Obscura. The coolest and offbeat wonder in Pennsylvania is listed as Devil's Hole Ruins located in Pennsylvania State Game Lands in the Monroe County town of Cresco, Pennsylvania.

For New York State, the coolest and offbeat wonder is listed by Stacker as North Brother Island located in the Bronx, New York, which was home to Riverside Hospital where 'Typhoid Mary' spend time.

While I'm not sure of any offbeat type places in the Southern Tier (and there may be some), there are certainly several cool wonders that are worth a visit. Here are five that I think are pretty cool.

Corning Museum of Glass
Now, how many cities can boast that they are the Glass Capitol of the World? Well, one - Corning, New York where Corning Glass Works began ( now Corning Inc.) And it's home to the Corning Museum Of Glass (or CMOG for short) and a walk through it is taking a walk through the history of glass. And don't forget to check out the huge telescope mirror and the history behind it.

Watkins Glen is at the base of beautiful Seneca Lake, home of the famous Watkins Glen race Track and the beautiful Watkins Glen State Park. A summer day trip is certainly a good idea. And there are many great restaurants and things to do around Watkins Glen and Seneca Lake.

Taughannock Falls Falls State Park
On the west side of Cayuga Lake and just above the City of Ithaca lies the beautiful Taughannock Falls Falls State park. It's one of the most popular falls to visit in New York State. And while you are in the area, take advantage of visiting the endless (well, it seems endless) number of wineries on both sides of the lake.

National Soaring Museum

You've seen gliders in the sky from time to time. In the Elmira area, it's a common sight, home to the National Soaring Museum on Harris Hill between Big Flats and Elmira. In addition to learning the history of gliders and maybe catching a few taking to the skies, Harris Hill also has a plenty of great places for a picnic and even an amusement park.
