Windsor School to Expand Agriculture Program with Federal Grant
The Windsor Central School District plans to hire a farm manager and agricultural consultant with funds provided by the United States Department of Agriculture.
The federal agency has awarded the district about $98,000 through the National Farm to School grant program.
The money also will be used to acquire a large refrigeration unit to store student-grown produce. It will cover the start-up costs of a career and technical education program for students in Windsor and other nearby school districts.
In recent years, the Windsor School District has added a seven-acre land lab and purchased a tractor.
The district also has developed a hydroponics lab that has provided produce for use in the Windsor High School.
