Apparently the tradition of airing the Charlie Brown Holiday Special has ended with the ABC television network.

According to an article in, The Peanuts holiday specials which include 'It's The Great Pumpkin', 'A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving' and 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' will not air on the ABC television network as has been the case for decades.

These specials take me back to my childhood, and I looked forward to watching them every year with my siblings, even though we knew the outcome would be the same. Although I was kind of hoping the Great Pumpkin would finally show up and vindicate Linus. Plus, these specials got us in to the holiday mood year after year.

So apparently the streaming service Apple TV+, has acquired the rights to air all three of the Charlie Brown specials according to the article in But before panic sets in, according to, Apple TV+ is making their service free for a limited time for each special to view.

I suppose the upside is, you can watch the specials over and over again during the limited viewing dates. But it seems, at least to me, that more and more of these shows that you are accustomed to watching on free TV, or if you subscribe to cable or satellite services, will now be viewed only on streaming services which require a monthly fee.

Sure, I subscribe to one currently, but I'm not sure I want to start subscribing to several to watch a handful of shows or movies that might be of interest to me. Or is that what the future holds?
