Volunteer Firefighters Gather in Cortland County for Winter Games
Firefighters from all over New York State hit the ice and snow in Central New York this weekend with a nice, fresh layer of the white stuff for their Winter Games.
The friendly competition at Greek Peak Mountain Resort has volunteer firefighters in full turnout gear competing in everything from a hose relay to tube racing.
This is the 15th year for the Firefighters Association of New York Winter Games.
Nearly 150 participants come to Cortland County to the ski resort and SUNY Cortland for the competition.
Events are being held from 7:45 a.m. February 8 through Sunday afternoon ending with the Broomball Tournament and awards ceremony at SUNY Cortland.
FASNY says the games don’t only promote camaraderie between departments, which are often called on to assist each other at incident scenes, but also serve as a day of training in what could be some non-typical conditions.
