With the various effects of COVID-19 there has been a major surge in food requests from needy families in the area.  The Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) is facing an ever-increasing task of trying to keep up with the needs of our area.

Many households have had someone fired, laid-off or put on leave.  Some households have both bread-winners forced out of work.  With area schools utilizing distance learning more students are spending additional time at home.

CHOW annually provides over two million pounds of food to needy individuals and families in Broome County.  That amount is expected to show a massive increase this year and CHOW staff members are seeing that upswing currently.  CHOW is asking for monetary donations so they can purchase more food for those in need.  CHOW administrators say they can buy in bulk and that every dollar donated can provide as many as five meals.
