CHOW Hunger Walk Goes Virtual for Second Year
For a second year, the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse Hunger Walk to raise money to combat food insecurity will be a virtual event.
Officials with CHOW and the Broome County Council of Churches say the quarter-mile walk can be done anytime and anywhere between October 1 and 9. For information and to sign up go to broomecouncil.net.
CHOW has been holding the Hunger Walk for over four decades and the event is the largest fundraiser for the program. In past years, walkers have circled parts of the Binghamton University campus, wound their way through the streets of Endicott and walked through Otsiningo Park.
Money raised through the effort can be stretched by the charity through its purchasing agreements with suppliers. CHOW is able to turn every dollar donated into five meals.
The goal for this year’s virtual walk is over $10,000.
CHOW says it distributed 2.2 million meals in the area last year.
Participants in this year’s virtual walk are also asked to post to social media with the hash-tag “Why I Walk.”
