UPDATE: One suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting of two people at Binghamton's Columbus Park. Mayor Richard David announced the development in a tweet late Wednesday afternoon.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Binghamton police say two people were injured when gunfire erupted in a crowded downtown park.

The shooting occurred on the west side of Columbus Park around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say officers found one person lying in the parking lot near the basketball courts. He was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City for treatment of gunshot wounds to both legs.

Another person sustained a gunshot wound to a wrist. Someone took him to a hospital in a private vehicle.

Investigators found several spent cartridges in the park. They say five gunshots were fired. No information was provided about the gunman or what happened prior to the shooting.

The names of those who were wounded have not been released.

Police say a reward of $1,000 has been offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the shooter.
