Three Binghamton Pools to Limit Capacity Due to Pandemic

The city of Binghamton is planning to open a few swimming pools but there will be restrictions because of coronavirus health concerns.

Mayor Richard David says pools at Recreation Park, Cheri Lindsey Memorial Park and Southside Park will open Saturday.

The pools will operate at 50 percent capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Special rules are being implemented to ensure compliance with state health guidelines.

Locker rooms and pool decks will remain closed. All visitors inside the fenced pool areas must stay in the water. Kids under the age of seven will be required to be accompanied by an adult in the pool.

Admission to the pools will be free but they'll be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Two monitors are to be on duty at each pool to enforce the rules.

The spray pad at Columbus Park also will start daily operations on Saturday. Social distancing guidelines will be in place at that site.

Smaller pools at MacArthur Park and Fairview Park will not be open this summer.
