All five counties in the Southern Tier continue to report new coronavirus infections and New York State reported 8,888 new COVID cases April 1.

Broome County is also reporting two new deaths attributed to the pandemic.  Executive Jason Garnar says a man in his 80s and a man in his 70s died March 31, bringing Broome’s death toll to 329. There were 57 new cases in the county. Broome has recorded 16,202 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic over a year ago.

Chenango County reported 21 new cases April 1 for a total of 2,818. There have been 65 deaths.  Cortland County added 12 cases for a total of4,052. There have been 62 deaths.

Delaware County becomes the final county in the Southern Tier to reach 2,000 coronavirus cases.  For a second day, on April 1 the county showed the second largest number of new cases behind Broome with 28 new cases, bringing the total to 2,002.  March 31, Delaware reported 42 new cases. The death toll remains at 45.

Tioga County reported 12 new cases April 1 for a total of 3,220.  There have been 72 deaths.

Statewide, there were 56 additional deaths. New York’s death toll since the start of the pandemic stands at 40,570.
