Traditional Irish Song ‘The Wild Rover’

Dropkick Murphys has been one of my favorite American Irish Punk bands for as long as I can remember. I am of Irish decent but unfortunately, my sister and I have had to take it upon ourselves to find things out about Irish culture as our parents don't know much. Although, from my fondness of drinking, I'm sure you could assume I have a significant amount of Irish in me...anyways!

Although it's origins are not exactly known, "The Wild Rover' is known as an Irish drinking song and it the most commonly performed Irish song. As you can tell from the lyrics, it is about a man who has been away from his home, comes back to his home town and plans to stay and settle down - "I will play the Wild Rover no more."
