It's that time of the year (well, when isn't it!) Road work and construction season have arrived throughout the Southern Tier of New York. Take a look at the following road work areas to be aware of when you head out. Road work schedules can change at any time.

Remember to slow down in road work/construction areas. Let's keep everyone safe - the road crew, other motorists, and of course you and your passengers. The following is what we currently know, but may not be a complete picture of all road contruction is the Greater Binghamton Area.

Binghamton Area

Water Street between Court Street and the parking ramp entrance is closed to traffic this week (April 27-May 1) as crews utilize a crane to install new rooftop HVAC units on the Boscov’s building. Boscov’s and other local businesses remain accessible to pedestrians during construction. The $10 million renovation project at 11 Court Street includes major upgrades to critical building systems, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, as well as elevator and structural repairs.
Continuing roadwork on Main Street, Binghamton, a continuation of the project that began in 2025. Be aware of changing patterns, detours, and lane closures.
Roadwork on Interstate 81 in both directions between Exit I-81, NY 17 (Binghamton) and Exit 3 - Broad Avenue West (Binghamton). Two right lanes and the shoulder of 6 lanes are blocked April 27 through May 1st between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Roadwork on Interstate 81 in both directions between Exit 6 south and north - US 11; Ramp (Chenango) and Exit 7 - US 11 (Chenango). Two alternate lanes of 4 lanes are blocked for pavement repairs & resurfacing on Interstate 81 northbound and southbound, with alternate lane closures between Exits 16 and 21 and overnight lane closures, now through September 30, 2026, between the hours of 7 a.m and 6 p.m.

Conklin

Roadwork on Route 7 in both directions between Shirley Avenue and Millburn Drive. One alternate lanes of 2 lanes are blocked for bridge repairs on Route 7 (Conklin Rd.) between Shirley Road & Milburn Drive, now through May 7th between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Vestal

Pothole repairs on the westbound Route 434 near Route 26.  The left lane is blocked for pothole repairs on Route 434 westbound between the Route 26 North/south ramps from April 27th through April 28th, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., with an overnight closure.

Roadwork on Route 434, both directions, between Main Street and Front Street. Two alternate lanes of 4 lanes are blocked for bridge replacement over Choconut Creek. Westbound traffic is shifted to one eastbound lane, and eastbound traffic is reduced to one lane between Main and Front Streets. The detour for Town Hall Road is Front Street. This work is occurring now through October 31st between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Broome County Highway Work for the Week of April 27, 2026

Work has begun beginning this week and will continue throughout the construction season. Construction may include temporary lane closures, flagging operations, and minor delays. Motorists are encouraged to plan accordingly, reduce speeds in work zones, and remain alert for workers and equipment.

• Paving Whitney Point/Lisle Road – County Route 061 (weather dependent)
• Culvert work on Dunham Hill Road, Knapp Hill Road & East Windsor Road
• Cleaning ditches on Old Route 17, Big Hollow Road, Trim Street, Knapp Hill Road, and Twist Run Road
• Road sweeping crews will be in the Endwell area on Hooper Road, Farm to Market Road & Taft Avenue
