Tioga County Sees Jump in Mandatory Quarantines

Tioga County officials are extending a state of emergency in the county following a spike in mandatory quarantines.

According to the order on Friday, the declaration that had been made back in March has been extended thirty days.

This comes after the largest one day jump in confirmed COVID-19 cases since March, with eight new cases being confirmed on Thursday, according to state data.

Tioga County health officials announced Friday that there are currently 167 confirmed cases in the county, with 130 recoveries and 24 deaths.

Officials also noted there are currently 81 people in mandatory quarantine, because they came in close contact with individual(s) who tested positive for coronavirus. Officials also added that this is a large increase in mandatory quarantines, and are attributed to large gatherings, parties, and barbecue events.

The order in essence allows the county easier access to obtaining resources it needs.

The declaration also allows more people to be permitted to collect swabs for COVID-19 testing.

The original order was issued back in March.
