New York State Electric and Gas crews were kept busy restoring electric service to thousands of customers in the Binghamton area.

According to the utility, significant power outages were reported Monday afternoon and evening in parts of Broome, Chenango and Delaware counties. Outages also occurred in other sections of NYSEG's service territory in upstate New York.

The biggest trouble spots in Broome County were reported in the towns of Sanford, Windsor, Colesville and Deposit. At one point, NYSEG indicated all of its Sanford customers were without electricity.

The utility did not indicate what caused the power interruptions.

As of early Tuesday morning, NYSEG reported electricity had been restored to all customers in Broome and Delaware counties.

Some power outages still were reported in sections of Chenango and Otsego counties.
