Thunderstorms Knock Out Power in Broome and Tioga Counties

About 32,000 NYSEG customers in upstate New York lost electric service after strong thunderstorms raced through the region.

According to the utility, crews cleared downed wires and responded to emergency situations overnight.

As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, NYSEG reported about 2,800 customers remained without power.

In Broome County, 50 customers did not have electric service at that point. The main problem spots in the county were in the towns of Binghamton and Conklin.

In Tioga County, 110 customers were without power. Most of them were in Newark Valley and Berkshire.

Dozens of customers also were without electric service in Delaware, Chenango and Steuben counties.

NYSEG reported about 90 downed wires as well as storm-related damage to other electrical equipment.
