April 7th is National Beer Day Day set aside to celebrate beer. According to Holidays Calendar, Nations Beer Day is celebrated on April 7th because that is the day Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act. It took 76 years for the day to be marked as a holiday.

Beer has changed so much over the last few years with all different types of styles and flavors now available. When it comes to beer, my favorites are Lagers, Pilsners, and Ambers. When purchasing beer I usually go for Labatts, Yuengling, or Michael Shea's Irish Amber. I'm not a big fan of Stouts or I.P.A.'s. To me, the IPA's are too hoppy and the stouts are like drinking dirt. And when it comes to beer I want beer flavored beer, not fruit-flavored beer. Comedian Denis Leary did a whole routine on flavored beer.

There are a bunch of breweries right here in the Binghamton area that I'm sure will be celebrating beer day Saturday. The Galaxy Brewing Company, Water Street Brewing Company, the North Brewery, The Beer Tree Brewing Company, The Farmhouse Brewery, and the Binghamton Brewery Company are just a few in the Binghamton area. I'm sure most local bars will be getting in on the celebration as well with great drink specials.

So whether you're going out to celebrate National Beer Day, or just raising a bottle at home, cheers! If you do go out to celebrate, don't drink and drive. Call a cab, use Uber or Lyft, or a designated driver.

Here's to beer.
