This Is the Wedding Movie That’s Most Popular in New York?
If you close your eyes, you can almost hear them - the sweet ting of wedding bells ringing from churches.
Wedding season is fast approaching and those of us who are married find ourselves thinking back on one of the biggest days of our lives while those stepping into marriage find themselves thinking of what a fantastically glorious day it will be.
There are literally thousands of movies that are in one way or another centered around the wedding theme but there are a handful that stand out above the rest, for me, at least.
When I think of classic wedding movies, I'm reminded of Royal Wedding which starred Fred Astaire and Jane Powell. When I think of hilarious wedding movies, I think of Bridesmaids which starred Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and others. When I think of cult-favorite wedding movies, I think of The Wedding Singer which starred Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler.
However, of all of the movies that came to mind, there was one that did not and it would appear that I am in the great minority when it comes to thinking of this movie above all others - My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
The Loupe looked at five years of Google trends search data to determine which wedding movie was the clear favorite of residents in each of the 50 states. New Yorkers really love My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Like, really love it.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding was actually the favorite wedding movie for people in six of the 50 states. Oddly, much of the west and southwest are head over heels in love with Corpse Bride. Royal Wedding didn't make the list at all while Bridesmaids was the favorite of only two states and The Wedding Singer is, apparently, only a big hit in Wyoming.
