This Free Vestal Christmas Display Helping BC Toys For Tots
For over a month, we've been encouraging you to "Light Up The Southern Tier" with your Christmas and holiday lights. We appreciate everyone that's sent them in so far and you can still participate now.
Last weekend, I decided to take a little ride around our area and try to find more Christmas displays. It seems like there are a lot of people in the holiday spirit this year. There is a two-block area in Apalachin that has totally embraced this concept.
I heard about this big display over by Weis Market on Main Street in Vestal and last year, they put up their Christmas display in March. They were trying to find a way to help everyone get through the beginning of the pandemic.
I headed that way, began up a nearby hill, and there it was like a beacon on a lighthouse. The Mabee family had done it again with their giant tree that was lit up like....well a Christmas tree on the corner of Glenwood and Ford Road.
That was only the beginning, as I got closer I could see all the blinking lights and jumping darts across their lawn. When you go to check out this awesome spectacle, make sure that you bring some toys along with you.
No, it's not for any of their children but for the Broome County Toys for Tots. There is a barrel that can't be missed and you don't even need to get out of your car to donate. I NEVER would suggest that you tune your radio to another station but when you go by their home, flip on 90.1 FM to enjoy the Christmas music that goes along with the light show.
When you're done, don't forget to turn the radio back to the station. Don't worry, if you do forget the change the channel, you'll lose the Mabee radio station about 1/2 mile away from their house.
It's like a beacon on a hill and it's definitely worth the drive to Vestal. After you left your donated toys, you could always head over to Apalachin and check out their free light displays
