Suit Filed to Throw Out Broome Legislative Map
A legal attempt is underway to try to throw out the newly redrawn legislative district maps in Broome County.
A group calling itself, “Fair Maps for Broome County”, made up of six plaintiffs, claims the new district lines were created using faulty population data and the process was skewed in order to preserve the Republican majority in the county legislature.
The group has hired attorney, John Perticone of Levine Gouldin & Thompson to ask the court to declare the district map invalid with one claim being the lines divide the Town of Maine into three districts in violation of the language of New York State Law saying towns with a small population “shall” not be divided.
Fair Maps for Broome County has posted a copy of the 9-page complaint alleging Republican gerrymandering filed with the State Supreme Court at www.fairmapsforbroome.org.
