State of Emergency Lifted, Clean Up Continues
Two days after States of Emergencies were declared for parts of Eastern Broome County due to heavy rain and flash flooding, things are slowly returning to normal.
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar signed papers lifting the State of Emergency for the region that included Deposit and Sanford at 4 p.m. August 9.
Cleanup from the flooding and washouts, however, is continuing.
Several roads around the region, especially in eastern Broome sustained some damage with debris scattered across the pavement and some culvert washouts due to torrential rain from afternoon storms Tuesday, August 8 and Wednesday, August 9.
Compromised culverts in Deposit in Delaware County have been blamed for the derailment of several train cars and two locomotives near Deposit at around 2 a.m. August 9.
There were also several reports of water getting into basements of homes.
Officials have not reported any serious injuries directly linked to the weather.
