Dear Melissa,

I see you. I hear you. I feel you. I too wish that Chick-fil-A would come to Broome County.

I'm always one to preach about how if a person wants something they must take action, not just say the words and I’m ashamed that although I’ve been one to speak the words for the last decade that I’ve lived in the Greater Binghamton area, I have failed to take the action that you did.

Everyone talks about how much they wish we had a Chick-fil-A, but how many of us are actually doing something about it like you, Melissa, did by creating a petition to bring one in? Exactly. So, I’m going to do my part by telling everyone about your petition and inviting them to sign it if they’re serious about wanting a Chick-fil-A to come to Broome County.

I agree with you that it’s awful when the craving for a Chick-fil-A sandwich hits that we have to drive forever away and no, I don’t think the wait makes the end result sweeter. I think it just makes us crankier.

Now, I know that as I write this there are some who are rolling their eyes at the nonsensicalness of it, and probably ready to pick up their pitchforks and come at me for suggesting that Broome County needs another restaurant (oh, the horror!) or to remind me that Chick-fil-A is a national chain. To those people I say, remember that although it might be a national chain, the restaurants are locally owned and they employ local people. Plus, Chick-fil-A is notorious for giving back to the communities in which they’re located.

And, can we take a second to acknowledge how well organized and sweet the restaurant staff is? In every. single. location. We could all use a nice heaping dose of kindness in our lives and there are days I think the only way it will happen is through the window of a Chick fil A when I'm being told "my pleasure" while someone is handing me my food and hoping I have a happy day.

Melissa, I’m a bit shocked that only 18 people (19 if you count me) have signed your petition to bring a Chick-fil-A to Broome County. Maybe it’s because people don’t know about it. Well, I’m hoping this open letter to you changes that.

Will we actually get one? Nobody can be sure, but action brings change and it can’t hurt to at least try. Melissa, I think your petition is a great starting point and I applaud you.

Love,
A fellow Chick-fil-A-lover

*While the majority of this is meant to be taken in a silly and satirical way, there is something to be said about taking action when it comes to things that matter to you. Also, Chick-fil-A really is amazing. If you agree, sign the petition...it can't hurt!
