Shelter Slam Returns This Weekend
I love animals. I've always had dogs and cats growing up. And for a while, we even had a rabbit and a hamster as a pet. Most people are pet people. Some are cat people, some are dog people, some are both, and then there are those that love all animals.
Regardless of what kind of pet person you are, if you love pets, you should go to Shelter Slam. It's a day-long event featuring 19 rock bands, both local and a few from out of state, donating their time to help raise money and gather food for a bunch of local animal shelters.
The first band starts at 1 this Saturday inside Endwell Greens. It's just $10 to get in, and since 2010, Shelter Slam had raised about 80k. for local shelters as well as countless pounds of dog and cat food.
Some of the bands that will be playing Saturday include; Wreckless Marci, Chief Big Way (featuring Joey Belladonna from Anthrax), The Kiil, Drama Scream, Hating Amy and Recycled Zombies (who have played every Shelter Slam) just to name a few. The full line up is on their website.
Some of the shelters that will be receiving the proceeds include; S.P.E.A.K., Every Dog's Dream, Jimmy J's, Pibbles and More, Willow's Wings, A.M.P.S., and the Broome County Humane Society.
It starts at 1 and goes... until it ends, probably around midnight or so. So if you are looking for something to do on Saturday, why not check out a few bands and help our furry little friends at the same time.
