Senator Charles Schumer Heads Visit to NYSEG Stadium

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer led a contingent of elected officials and a number of baseball executives on a tour of NYSEG Stadium this (Monday) afternoon. Joining Senator Schumer were:

Jeff Wilpon, COO of the New York Mets; Binghamton Rumble Ponies' owner John Hughes; Dan Halem, Deputy Commissioner of Major League Baseball; Joe McEachern, President of the Eastern League; Binghamton Mayor Rich David; Congressman Anthony Brindisi and Broome County Executive Jason Garnar.

The group took a walk through of the facilities at NYSEG Stadium including the batting cages, dugouts and locker room areas.  Binghamton has been listed by Major League Baseball as one of the teams that would lose their affiliation after this season under a plan introduced by the Houston Astros to eliminate 42 Minor League teams with Major League affiliations.

New York State, local government and Rumble Ponies' owner John Hughes have added over five million dollars of improvements to the stadium over the past several years. Officials did not specify what if any improvements are needed to meet the New York Mets and Major League Baseball requirements.

Speaking with News Radio 1290 WNBF after the meeting owner John Hughes says the plan moving forward is to meet again in six to eight weeks.  It was the first in-person meeting between Hughes and New York COO Wilpon since the announcement came from Major League Baseball on the potential elimination of the 42 affiliations.
