Let's expand that to recommendations to someone new to Binghamton and the surrounding areas. There's so much more to see and do.

I've lived in the Binghamton area for over 37 years. Well, actually 40 years if you count 1977 to 1980. From 1980 to 1982, I lived in Elmira. That being said, I've experienced pretty much everything our area has to offer.

So, if I was to give a newcomer some recommendations about what to do, see and try in the Binghamton area, here's six things that I would mention. Obviously there are many more, but these six are the first things I thought of.

Spend Time In Our Many Parks

We have so many parks to enjoy, including local, county and state parks. Chenango Valley State Park was the first park I explored when I came to Binghamton. It's also the first park I went to when I bought my first camper. We also have Dorchester, Otsiningo, Nathaniel, Recreation and Greenwood parks to name a few.

    Eat At Our Diners

It's personal thing for me. I love diners. I love local diners. The food is good, the staff is friendly and the prices are low. And you are helping the small business owner stay in business.

We've got professional baseball and hockey. We have college sports at Binghamton University and Suny Broome. And what's more exciting than watching a local high school sporting event? If you like sports, we've got you covered.

    Try a Spiedie

It's a local invention, and in various forms, including lamb, pork, beef and chicken. Just the roll or slice of Italian bread and those delicious chunks of marinate meat for me. That's how it should be eaten in my opinion. Or right off the skewer like Jim Free likes to do. Ouch.
