We all know prostitution is the oldest profession. If some lawmakers in New York have their way, it will become New York's newest “legal” profession.

According to NBC 4 New York, a bill was introduced by state legislators on Monday that would broadly legalized prostitution in New York State.

DecrimNY is the advocacy group behind the bill. If the bill passes, it would make it legal to both buy and sell sex in New York State with certain restrictions.

Senators Jessica Ramos and Julia Salazar are the state senators sponsoring the bill.

NBC 4 New York reported that 9 out of 10 people arrested in sex work related raids are immigrants.

The only state in the U.S. where prostitution is legal is Nevada, and that is on a county by county basis.

DecrimNY has a website that explains their goals. Click here to learn more about them.

So will we be seeing brothels opening up in the Binghamton area anytime soon? I guess time will tell.
