Preparing New Yorkers For The Heat Of Summer
Summer arrives on June 21, 2026, but looking at the current weather, it's already here, and I, for one, am happy about that. Winter was a bit brutal, and we need a nice warm, sunny summer, right?
Hot Weather Is Here This Week
This week, we are experiencing temperatures in the 80s, maybe flirting with the 90s, and feels like temperatures are even higher. So with that in mind, Governor Kathy Hochul has urged New Yorkers to prepare for the high temperatures today (June 10), Thursday, Friday, and continuing through the weekend.
Scattered thunderstorms are also a possibility today and Thursday across the state as well, with the potential for severe local weather.

The Governor noted that feels like temperatures will get into the high 90s and possibly low 100s in areas across New York City, Hudson Valley, Finger Lakes, Capital Region, and Southern Tier regions Thursday through Friday.
No heat advisory has been issued as of this writing, but one could be declared later in the week, so stay tuned to your favorite radio station for any updates.
Extreme heat poses a huge risk if not taken seriously. This week, the World Cup kicks off, and as New Yorkers make plans to watch the first match, it is critical to factor in a plan for severe heat: Plan ahead and stay hydrated, check in with elderly neighbors and know where your nearby cooling centers are during the next few days. - New York State Governor Kathy Hochul
