Pennsylvania is being hit hard by the latest surge of COVID-19, including in the Northern Tier counties.

The state is asking the federal government to send health care workers to the hardest hit areas to help hospitals and nursing homes struggling with the latest COVID-19 surge and persistent staff shortages.

Governor Tom Wolf is asking for Federal Emergency Management Agency teams to help hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and ambulance companies. The Commonwealth is also asking for one-million rapid, at-home coronavirus test kits and to increase the state's allocation of monoclonal antibody treatments.

Bradford County this week marks a milestone in the pandemic with a total of over 10,000 cases to-date of COVID-19. State Health Department numbers note Bradford County’s total cases December 14 at 10,008, an increase of 430 since December 6. Over the past week, eight residents in the county have died, bringing the total to 146.

Wayne County also passing a pandemic high-mark. Wayne now has surpassed 7,000 COVID-19 cases during the pandemic.  The County is noted at 7,029 cases, an increase of 332 from last week. There were six additional deaths for the week.

Susquehanna County noted 5,274 total cases, an increase of 432 from the previous week. There were three additional deaths.

Pennsylvania reports hospitalizations statewide are up by 2-thirds since last month.

In the Southern Tier of New York, Broome County reported 202 new cases December 15. There have been 447 lives lost. Chenango County reported 25 new cases. The death toll remains at 92.  Cortland County reports 18 new cases. There have been 89 deaths. Delaware County reported 71 additional cases since Monday, December 13 with 81 deaths in the county.  Tioga County’s total stands at 6,987 cases to-date and 76 pandemic-related deaths.
