The season for walking, jogging, and running is here! All great ways to get in some exercise, and it's so good for your health.

2026 walks, 5K runs, half-marathons, and such are locked in. Two events recently occurred - the American Heart Association's annual Southern Tier Heart Walk at the Oakdale Commons, and the annual Binghamton Bridge Run.

I was a part of both events, and they were both great events, attended by many from the Southern Tier of New York and beyond.

Owego Strawberry Festival 5K Walk/Run

Another annual event will be returning this year - the Strawberry Festival 5K Walk/Run. Organizers are inviting runners, walkers, and families to be a part of the run, which is the event that kicks off the 44th annual Owego Strawberry Festival.

The Strawberry Festival 5K Walk/Run will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Hickories Park in Owego.

It's More Than Just A Race!

This event isn't just a run, it's a fun evening that, in addition to the 5K race, will feature music, food, vendors, and family-friendly activities, according to the organisers' announcement.

The Strawberry Festival 5K Walk/Run will take place at Hockories Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., offering fun for people of all ages. The day's activities will kick off at 4:30 p.m. with the bib pickup and registration. To register, visit the run entrance page.

Join In The Kids' Fun Run

The Kid’s Fun Run, which is free and open to children ages 12 and under, will start at 5:15 p.m. Participants must be registered by a parent or guardian on the same day they sign up and will receive a numbered bib and finisher medal.

The Strawberry Festival 5K race will start at 6 p.m. Runners will receive the official 2026 Strawberry Festival Run Medal.

A DJ will provide music, and there will be food vendors on hand with plenty of delicious items to choose from.

The Strawberry Festival 5K is a kick-off to a full weekend of festivities in the Village of Owego. Additional events include:

  • Friday, June 19 (beginning at 5:00 p.m.): Live music, vendors, food, and fireworks in the Village near the courthouse.
  • Saturday, June 20: The Strawberry Festival Parade at 9:30 a.m., followed by a full day of vendors, food, and entertainment.

Celebrate one of Owego’s most beloved annual traditions, the 44th Annual Strawberry Festival, and go to Owego.org for more festival information.
