Owego Man Accused of Choking Tioga County Sheriff’s Deputy
A Tioga County man faces five felony counts after he allegedly attacked a deputy sheriff with a pipe.
Authorities say 48-year-old Michael Kelly Jr. of Owego was arrested following the violent confrontation early Wednesday morning.
According to the Tioga County sheriff's office, Kelly became irate after a sergeant found him in a damaged vehicle on North Avenue in Owego.
Kelly allegedly attacked the sergeant with a pipe. The two wound up on the ground, where the sergeant sustained a head injury. Kelly then is said to have choked the sergeant.
Two state troopers arrived on the scene and used a Taser to take Kelly into custody. He is charged with assault, strangulation and criminal mischief.
The sergeant was treated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and released.
