Gabriel Truitt is charged with two counts of second degree murder and one count each of first degree murder and arson in the December fire that killed 38-year-old John Heller as he saved his fiancé and four children from the burning apartment building on Walling Avenue in Oneonta.

Truitt’s brother, 34-year-old Terrance Truitt, had been arrested January 2 and charged with arson in the deadly December 29th fire but officials later concluded he did not set the fire.  He was released in February.
