UPDATE: A NYSEG spokeswoman advised WNBF News just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday that power had been restored to all customers following the repair work.

ORIGINAL STORY:

More than a thousand NYSEG customers in the town of Union were without electric service as utility crews performed emergency repairs on a transmission line.

According to NYSEG, overnight storms and softened soil conditions resulted in a tree falling onto a power line on Cornell Avenue in Endicott.

In order to safely remove the tree and to complete the necessary repair work, power to the area was temporarily shut off at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

The utility said about 1,300 customers would be affected by the outage. The interruption also will affect the operation of some traffic signals. Drivers are advised to treat intersections with non-working signals as a "four-way stop."

The outage was expected to last for about three hours.
