Veterans Day Parade Returns To Binghamton
Veterans Day is November 11. It's a time to remember past and present members of the United States military.
I often see people say to a passing member of the armed forces "Thank you for your service." Those five words mean so much to an active or retired military person; we don't say it often enough. They put their lives on the line to keep our country safe while preserving our freedoms.
Veterans Day was established after an unknown World War I American soldier was interred at Arlington National Cemetery on November 11, 1921.
The Broome County Veterans Services Agency offers a wide range of services for our local veterans such as professional services, advice, and to familiarize veterans and their families with the Department of Veterans Affairs benefits available to them.
According to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 478 Binghamton, the Veterans Day Parade will return to Binghamton after a 4-year hiatus on November 11, 2023, at 1 p.m. The parade will begin at the American Legion Post 80, 76 Main Street, Binghamton, and continue to the Broome County Courthouse. The viewing stand will be located near the County Courthouse
On Veterans Day this year, according to the Go Broome County website, United States military veterans may ride BC Transit buses free of charge. The website notes that it includes any veteran who is a current customer of BC Lift, BC Country, and OFA Mini-Bus. Show the bus driver a Broome County Veteran ID card or US Military Card when boarding.
Also, Price Chopper Markets are offering U.S. military veterans an 11% discount on any one shopping trip on Saturday, November 11. The discount is good for all retired and active-duty veterans, National Guard military personnel, National Guard military personnel, and immediate family members, with proof of service and AdvantEdge Card.
We respect those who have sacrificed for our country and want to express our appreciation for their efforts to protect our freedoms. This is our way of thanking the members of our military and veterans along with their families.” - Blaine Bringhurst, President - Price Chopper/Market 32
