Binghamton Vet Joins NYS Veterans' Hall of Fame

96-year-old Albert Rood of Binghamton is now a hall-of-famer.

The World War II veteran has been inducted into the 2022 New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. Rood served in the 5^th assault wave on the beach at the Battle of Iwo Jima in 1945.

He was honored June 6, 2022 on the 78^th anniversary of D-Day.

Corporal Rood began his military career with the Marine Corp while he was still in high school and served in the communications unit of the 5^th Marine Division, coordinating naval gunfire units.

After two years of service in the military, Rood returned to his hometown and worked for the New York Telephone Company as a lineman and repairman for 40 years and is currently a member of the Marine Corp League funeral honor guard.

This is Senator Fred Akshar's last nomination to the Hall of Fame as the Binghamton Republican is leaving the State Senate to run for Broome County Sheriff.
