Just over two weeks after he was born, the newest calf at Animal Adventure Park has been named.

Officials at the Harpursville facility say he'll be known as Azizi. They may call him by the nicknames "Az" or "Azi."

An online naming contest was launched after April the Giraffe gave birth on March 16.

A statement released by the park Monday said the options were narrowed down to a pool of 20 prospective names.

Those who participated in a naming contest eventually picked "Keeper's Choice" to hand over the final decision to the giraffe care team.

The team selected Azizi, which was one of the top 20 names suggested.

According to the Animal Adventure statement, Azizi has "meanings that truly identify with the personality" of the calf. "Precious, powerful, beloved" and "the mighty one" fit the fast-growing calf.

Azi now weighs more than 170 pounds and stands six feet tall. Zoo officials say he eventually could weigh more than 2,000 pounds and grow to a height of 18 feet.

Park officials say more than 300,000 people from around the world viewed the birth of the giraffe online.
