New York State Fair Cleared for 100% Occupancy
After being shut down due to the pandemic last year, the Great New York State Fair is not only going to welcome visitors in August but it will be 100-percent open and is going to have a longer run than ever.
The Fair is scheduled for August 20 to September 6 at the state fairgrounds outside Syracuse operating at 100-percent capacity.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says while all the buildings will be open, some with additional vendors, there could be some indoor capacity restrictions dependent on state health guidelines.
Before last year’s shutdown, the state fair had been raking in record crowds and revenues and the State had made substantial investments recently in improving the fairgrounds and the fair-going experience.
The Democrat says the fair brings in over a million visitors, not only from New York but from 28 states and 6 countries, translating into $100-million in economic activity.
Cuomo says the reopening announcement is the result of continuing improvement in the coronavirus infection rate. Where the positivity rate had been at 2% when there had been guidance announced for a reopening of the fair, the rate is now at .4%, allowing the rules to change to 100% occupancy.
