The mission of Go Red for Women is to fight against heart disease and stroke in women. According to the American Heart Association, this annual day unites millions of people for a common goal: saving more women’s lives.

Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year.  It impacts some women at higher rates than others, but it can be prevented with education and healthy lifestyle changes. Losing even one woman to cardiovascular disease is too many, says the American Heart Association.

The AHA notes that heart disease and stroke can affect a woman at any age, and research shows that stress may impact health as well, making it vital for all women to understand their personal risk factors and family history.

The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement was launched in 2004 with the goal of raising awareness and fighting a woman’s greatest health threat — cardiovascular disease. Today, Go Red for Women not only advocates for the health of all women, funds lifesaving research and educates women across the United States and around the world but is committed to removing the unique barriers women face to experiencing better health and well-being. - American Heart Association

Wear red to be seen on Friday, February 6, 2026, to be counted, to be heard, and to make an impact. For more information about National Wear Red Day and facts about Women and heart disease, visit the American Heart Association website.
