National Night Out Against Crime Activities Planned
Activities are planned all around the region August 7 in observance of National Night out Against Crime.
In the City Binghamton residents can gather at the Boys and Girls Club from 5 to 8:30 p.m., Saratoga Apartments from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Columbus Park from 5 to 7 p.m., Fairview Park from 5 to 8 p.m., the Broome County Library on Court Street from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Cheri Lindsey Park from 3 to 8 p.m.
This year’s theme is “Unity in the Community.” Organizers say there will be free food and games as well as demonstrations and visits from the Binghamton Police and Fire Departments.
In Vestal, the 21st annual Cruise In and Cook out takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Parkway Plaza parking lot across from Target.
All classes of cars are welcome for the cruise-in display with food available. Proceeds from the cook-out go to the Crime Victims Assistance Center in Broome County. Members of the Vestal Police will be doing child safety inspections and providing crime prevention and safety information. Emergency vehicles will be on display and a number of give-aways and activities are planned.
National Night Out events are held in over 16-thousand communities in the United States to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness and send a message to criminals that citizens are organized and fighting for their communities.
