Utility crews have restored power to thousands of customers across upstate New York in the aftermath of the snowstorm but they still have a lot of work to do.

New York State Electric and Gas early Saturday evening reported 91,132 customers were without electric service.

The Avangrid subsidiary indicated it expected to have power restored to more than 90 percent of the affected customers by 11:45 p.m.

The company reported 1,190 Broome County customers were without electricity. Dozens of customers in the towns of Vestal,Conklin, Barker, Fenton, Kirkwood, Maine, Sanford and Windsor lacked service.

In Tioga County, 687 customers were without power. Among the county's biggest problem spots were the towns of Owego, Newark Valley, Tioga, Barton, Berkshire, Candor and Nichols.

A Red Cross shelter at Windsor High School is expected to remain open until 7 a.m. on Sunday. A shelter at Chenango Forks High School closed Saturday afternoon.
