Misspelling Scammers Threaten Southern Tier Residents
Another scam making the rounds online involves threats of legal action against local residents if they don’t respond to a notice saying they violated a federal law involving a court appearance.
Big tip-off: the crooks can't spell and, apparently don't have spell-check or autocorrect.
Scammers have cast such a wide net even personnel in the Broome County District Attorney’s office say they’ve gotten the emails which try to gather personal information or hack into a person’s computer system.

Residents are advised to NOT click on any links in the email.
One of those links is so the intended victim can explain their absence, spelled: “abscence.”
