Sections of two downtown streets were closed to traffic as a Binghamton resurfacing project got underway.

Traffic was detoured from a section of Court Street between Front and Chenango streets Wednesday as workers started milling operations.

The Court Street bridge was closed to vehicular traffic but remained open for pedestrians.

Crews from the city public works department and Broome Bituminous are involved in the project.

A portion of State Street also was shut down for the milling work.

Downtown traffic has been much lighter than usual in recent weeks because of the shutdown of most business due to the coronavirus pandemic.

No information was immediately available from city officials on when paving would be done.
