Menorah Car Parade To Travel Through The Community On Sunday
Happy Chanukah! The Jewish celebration began at sundown on Thursday December 10th and ends Friday December 18th. Chanukah is also referred to as Hanukkah and the Festivals of Lights. Over the eight days, Chanukah is celebrated with games, gifts, traditional foods and the lighting of the menorah.
Our local Jewish community will be doing something special this weekend you don't want to miss. On Sunday December 13th, almost 30 vehicles will each carry a large Menorah traveling through some of our area municipalities for a fun and bright tradition.
According to the press release, The Jewish Federation and Chabad of Binghamton are organizing the procession of vehicles with lit Menorahs Sunday night through Vestal, Binghamton and Johnson City along with the lighting of a nine foot LED Menorah.
The lighting of the nine foot LED Menorah will commence at 4:30 p.m. in the Jewish Community Center parking lot, located on 500 Clubhouse Road in Vestal. In addition to the lighting of the Menorah, there will be live music and holiday treats, according to the press release.
Along with a police escort, the Car Menorah Parade will commence at 4:50 p.m., traveling through Vestal, Johnson City and end in Binghamton. The Menorah Car Parade is sponsored by the Rohr Chabad Center for Jewish Student Life at Binghamton University.
