I hope you enjoyed our annual Classic Rock from A to Z. Took over two weeks to complete. It's a fun time playing every song in Binghamton's largest on-air Classic Rock library by title.

Well, now it time for another  99.1 The Whale tradition. The annual Memorial Day Weekend Classic Rock 500 has been put together and is ready to go!

Every year, we put together a list of our top 500 Classic Rock song picks and play them back from song number 500 to the number one song. This year, we are going to get a bit of a jump on The Whale's Memorial Day Weekend Classic Rock 500.

Instead of beginning it on Saturday morning at 6 am as we have done for the past 20 years or so (I forget when we began airing the 99.1 The Whale Memorial Day Classic Rock 500), we decided to begin on Friday (May 22nd) at 3pm. Why? Well, why not. We consider every weekend kicks off at 5 pm on Fridays, so why not kick off the Top 500 around the same time. Look, it ain't rocket science.

I think you will hear a few songs during this year's countdown that have not made it into the Top 500 in past years, or ever for that matter. Sure, they may be towards the bottom of the list, but it's cool to see some old gems sneak into the Top 500.

I took a hard look at this year's Top 500, and found that a few artists had more song entries than others, including AC/DC, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and Van Halen. Yea, they all are heavyweight Classic Rock artists and bands, so it doesn't surprise me.

Take 99.1 The Whale wherever you go this Memorial Day Weekend on your radio, Whale app, smart speaker and online at 99.1thewhale.com, so you don't miss hearing where you favorite Classic Rock tunes come in during the Whale's Memorial Day Classic Rock 500.
