I'm tired. Of winter, that is. Enough of the snow, cold, ice, etc. Yes, I know it's what we deal with every year, but even though I have spent almost all of my life in good ól New York State, and should be used to the weather, I'm beginning to understand the mentality of those who are snowbirds. Maybe when I retire, that's something to think of.

But there's no reason not to at least dream about warmer days ahead. Spring and summer will be here soon. And with that, I've already begun planning a vacation. It's going to be a once-in-a-lifetime trip, so I'm excited!

That got me to wondering, what New Yorkers and Pennsylvanians (or anyone reading this) consider their most exciting once-in-a-lifetime trip? For me. I'd have to say a trip (actually went 3 times) to Scotland. What a beautiful country. I rented a car (manual stick) driving throughout the country. That was a challenge driving on the left side of the road!

So I asked the question on social media recently. Wow! Some great trips taken by those who responded. Check out some of the responses I received:

  • Phyllis C. - We traveled to Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, to a wedding. It was totally out of our comfort zone (we don't speak Spanish), but it was an amazing experience. Enjoying local food and local customs is part of the charm of international travel.
  • Pete'n Barb Whitewater rafting on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.
  • Millie H. - At the age of 64, I rode my Harley-Davidson motorcycle from Windsor, NY, to Needles, California. Solo, I camped in tents and traveled on Old Route 66, and stopped at the Cadillac Ranch in Texas. Visited the Grand Canyon. Over 7,000 miles and 18 days, my family thought I was crazy, but they were happy for me.
  • Margie JWent to Norway with my family.
  • Shirley W. - Won an "all-expense paid" trip to London for a week!! Visited Madame Tussaud's "Wax Museum" and "World Book of Records". Also, in 1989 attended the "Oktober Fest" in Munich, Germany. While there, amongst the "huge" crowd ran into a young soldier who attended school with my children.
  • Kimberly B. - Disney World for sure.
  • Charles W. - Back in 2010, I drove my '51 Hudson automobile from Schenectady, NY, to California and up to Washington state and back. 23 States in 22 days.
  • Kevin F.Switzerland and Ireland. Both Incredible.
  • Sue M. - Drove a motorhome from our home to Alaska and back. Spent 85 days. Visiting Grand Tetons Glacier, Jackson Hole on the way to Alaska, then on the way back, Jasper and Banff in Canada, then Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Saw so much in Alaska. It was amazing.
  • Patty S. - Aruba.
  • Anthony F.Niagara Falls.
  • Donald D.Back in 2002, I went on a 30-day business trip to Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. It was absolutely amazing to visit such diverse cultures and meet so many amazing and interesting people.
  • Neck P.I rode my bike halfway across the US. New York to Southwest Oklahoma, Paioli! Full throttle 3 days there, stayed 4, and all three days back in the pouring rain!
  • Trudy A. - A tie between Hawaii and the Caribbean cruise.
  • Kristy B. - My honeymoon to the Lake Pannasoffkee, Florida swamp, just outside the junkyard I was married in, Beemans junkyard/and recycling, in the back of a Chevy Luv.
  • Debbie S.A 9 day carribean cruise with my Bestie, Pam. For decades, while raising our families, we had no money for expensive vacations. Our outings were usually grocery shopping or Christmas shopping together. All the while talking, thinking, dreaming about waking up in St. Lucia. So, we saved and saved to go on this cruise. In St. Lucia, we took a catamaran around the island. It was the very best time ever!
  • Lois H.Amtrak from Syracuse, NY, to Malta, Montana, on a 3-day trip. Wonderful experience!
  • Mary J. - The Big Island of Hawaii.
  • Jill H.Washington DC to see the Van Gogh exhibit!
  • John K. 10 days on the Big Island, Hawaii. Amazing days and nights filled with so many memories. Out of all of them, the trip to the green beach (yes, the sand is green) in a 4-wheel drive pickup truck over and around large dunes. It was a perfect September day with a cloudless sky, and the water in the cove area was a most beautiful blue, and the sand was a light to medium green.
The only green beach in the Hawaiian Islands, and I believe there may be only one other green beach in the world.
  • Dana T.Several of my coworkers and I flew over North Korea. Definitely once in a lifetime.
  • Terri D. - Cross country to California and back - Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, Big Sur, Windslow, AZ, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Mall of America, Va Beach, and so much more - a trip of a lifetime!
  • Virginia S. - Hawaii for my daughter’s wedding anniversary.
  • Tia Z. - France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Austria, and Germany.
  • Paula E. - The 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics.
  • Dawn P.Alaskan Cruise last summer for our 2nd honeymoon.
  • Mary S.  -Trinidad, Colorado, during covid we got married as everything in NY closed down.
  • Marcia P.A cruise to Puerto Rico for 8 nights. It was awesome. Heading to Bermuda in the fall.
