Major Traffic Pattern Change Ahead for Downtown Binghamton

Drivers in Binghamton should be prepared for significant changes in traffic patterns on a busy downtown street.

Mayor Richard David said Water Street will become one-way for northbound traffic between Court and Henry streets starting on Friday.

The move is being done ahead of the planned demolition of the city-owned parking ramp next to Boscov's department store.

Vehicles will be able to get to the garage from Court Street only. It won't be accessible from Henry Street.

Construction workers now are removing medians on Water Street. The changes will provide remove from more on-street parking. Those spaces will be free with a two-hour time limit.

The existing 600-space Water Street garage is scheduled to be demolished after the holiday shopping season.

A 549-space parking facility is to be erected in its place. A second phase of the project calls for the construction of a 122-unit apartment complex above the new garage.
